Ok, so Aries Ascendants, what does 2018 hold in store for you? Well it's natural to starting with the outer planets and how they are affecting you in general and this is a summary of where they are moving before I move on to a more detailed chronological look at the year ahead.

Pluto in currently moving in the work sector of your chart. One of the words I use in regard to Pluto is empowerment and wherever it moves it allows you to achieve to gain some control over your destiny. The transits of Pluto are not easy though and the power it transmits is difficult to control. From being in this part of your chart Pluto will make you more determined and ruthless in your work environment, you will strive for success. In this you may try to dominate others, however every action has a reaction so if you try these tactics, expect opposition to your ideas and decisions. If you work hard however and remain composed, then Pluto can be a help rather than a hindrance. Pluto is a planet of great change and transformation and the direction and nature of your career may radically change.

Neptune is moving in the sector of your chart representing the unconscious mind and it rules matters of spiritualism, solitude, suffering, institutions and hospitals, prisons and places of rehabilitation. It is pulling you into a more spiritual manner of living and is encouraging you to give up the more materialistic urges within you. You may be seeking a more quiet life or circumstances through health issues or general confusion at the direction that you should be going is slowing you down. This year will will see your reliance on fate, faith, more esoteric and spiritual practices increase, and as time goes on you may find that there are different ways of achieving your aims that you previously had not considered.

Uranus is progressing through your Ascendant house and it is bringing a lively, rebellious and independent spirit to you. You will have noticed over the past few years that you will have picked up a much more sceptical side to your nature, questioning the validity of anything that you weren't happy or fully agreed with. Your need to be different, in particular through your choice of attire, hairstyle may have brought you into contact with different kinds of people too. Between 16th May and 6th November Uranus will temporarily shift just into Taurus however this change of sign is highly unlikely to invoke a change of house for you too too, however it's change of sign may just allow us to see a noticeable and generational shift in all our value systems.

Saturn the great teacher and planet that holds us all to account just changed signs before the start of 2018 and it begins it's progression through the first half of the sign of Capricorn, connected as with Pluto to the work and career side of your life. Responsibilities may be thrust upon you this year, either in terms of you having a heavier workload, being in charge of others or you may find that your dealing with the general public become that bit harder than they used to be in the years before. Matters with your parents or with elderly people may also place an excess burden on you. You'll especially notice these matters coming to the fore in mid April and the first week of September, times when Saturn grinds to a halt before turning direction, and thus increasing in influence and power.

Jupiter for most of the year is in the sign of Scorpio which in your case relates to your house of intimacy, control, sharing and change. Jupiter's function is to expand our lives and and to bring us into contact with new experiences. In Scorpio, Jupiter will want to plummet the depths and it immerse you in the most intense situations, therefore expect your sex-life to be much more active and passionate during 2018, you will enter into power battles, pit your wits against manipulative people, you may have to deal with death and upsetting change. This is a year to sort out debts, investments and financial agreements with banks and money lenders and you may benefit in time from well chosen deals that you make. Expect these issues to come to the fore especially in the 2nd weeks of March and July around the time when Jupiter slows, stops and changes direction.

Right let's get into the real details of what awaits you in 2018.

January

Overview - The Sun and Venus are in Capricorn as we start this year and Mercury joins them in this sign on 11th January and there is a general focus on career matters. Between 18th and 20th January both the Sun and Venus shift into Aquarius and as they do your values and ideas move over to more collaborative and social concerns. Mercury follows on behind moving into Aquarius on the last day of the month.

Mars generally dictates where our actions and motivations are directed to, and we find it as we begin the year in your house of change and control alongside Jupiter, therefore you will be find these two planets controlling your agenda early on as matters of debt, money owed, investments, power, control and your intimate life will take on importance in January. You'll be willing to take a risk in these sectors of life on around 8th of the month with Jupiter conjunct to Mars but be careful not to overstretch yourself. Jupiter forms a sextile to Pluto a week later and this aspect will allow you to gain more control of your intimate life or over matters linked to anything shared, also watch out of an over-controlling boss trying to take advantage of you; this aspect will be exact on and around 16th January.

On the 17th January there is a 150 degree quincunx between Mars and Uranus, and this may see you having to adjust your ideas quite sharply in regard to someone or something that tries to control you in some manner, either financially or in a more manipulative and unexpected way. You'll have to remain nimble and adjust your attitudes to deal with the sudden change of rules that you are being asked to adhere to. You will react, however try and keep your irritation to a minimum.

Mars moves into Sagittarius on the 26th and the focus will shift towards learning and expanding your knowledge and belief systems. Now and in the next two months you will start to defend your beliefs more and stand up against anyone who starts to doubt you. This transit also could bring legal issues your way or matters to do with in-laws. This part of your chart is also linked to matters of culture, travel and higher education as well as publishing your work to a broader audience. You'll be eager to learn and spread your wings, so grab any opportunities to improve your knowledge and skills with both hands.

On the 31st January we have the first of five eclipses this year, a lunar eclipse in Leo to start things off. This eclipse will highlight matters of your individual creative potential, love and casual relationships, hobbies, out of work activities and children. Any one of these matters will be subject to emotional change in the following few months.

February

Overview - The Sun, Mercury and Venus all start off the month in Aquarius and our focus on friends, acquaintances and group efforts persist until around mid month. Venus moves into Pisces on the 10th and the Sun and Mercury follow on the 18th. During the second half of February you will be looking to sacrifice your normal life for a bit of peace and quiet away from the rat race.

Following hot on the heels of this first Lunar Eclipse is a Solar one on 15th February this time in the opposite sign to Leo, that of Aquarius. The issues of cooperation, groups and group activities, your social life, friends, and your personal hopes and dreams will also be in the spotlight in the months ahead, and you may expect to see golden opportunities, challenges and changes in these areas of life as we move forward through 2018.

The 17th February sees Mars square to Neptune and this moment may see you making a sacrifice, feeling confused or depleted in energy, or maybe actions that were hidden from you previously may be opened out. Don't make any specific plans around now, as they may be doomed to failure or hopelessly damaged from the offset. This is a connection where mistakes can be made, so keep your wits about you and be aware of the potential pitfalls.

March

Overview – Mercury and Venus both enter Aries from 6th March and from this time you will start to feel much more assertive, alive and more self confident, not only personally but in dealing with other people too. The Sun follows on afterwards into Aries at the Spring Equinox on 20th March starting a brand new Astrological year and giving you an extra boost of energy. Venus enters strong and stable Taurus on the last day of the month.

Moving into March, Mars and Uranus in a trine impel you to be more individualistic and adventurous. You will be impulsive and you can make great strides and progress now if you take an innovative approach. There will be a great need to take risks, feel danger and to live on the edge. You may want to try something different, learn something new or get involved in social projects. There could be help coming from overseas, or from people with a learned background; use their wisdom to help you to understand better.

On the 17th of the month Mars enters the sign of Capricorn and the emphasis shifts again as work, career and matters of a more public nature start to be more prevalent for the next couple of months. You may start to be involved in new work projects as we head towards spring you will work diligently and hard; you'll be throwing all your energies into doing a good job. Your role may bring you more into contact with the public and you may clash with them, senior people and/or parents if you try to be too selfish or self-obsessed. Work hard, keep your head down, and remember on occasions to bite your tongue.

On the 24th March Mercury moving in your Ascendant house stops and turns retrograde. In the next three weeks you will be reviewing who you really are, and how you appear to others. Do you need a change of image now to bring yourself up to date? Is the way you are expressing yourself really true to yourself or not? This is a time when you must take your own inner feelings and transfer them to the outer you that you show the world, so it'll be a lesson in being true to yourself. Watch what you say to say to others as it may be misconstrued or seem upsetting.

April

Overview – The inner solar bodies now start to diverge, as Venus races ahead through Taurus focusing your values and desires on your income, possessions and the material side of life. Mercury stays in Aries all month as it is moving retrograde making you think more carefully what you say and the impact that it is having on other people. The Sun moves into Taurus on the 20th just before Venus moves into mutable Gemini on the 24th April, starting to activate your social life and filling your diary with local events.

It is now April and Mars conjuncts with Saturn on and around the 2nd day of the month. At work you may be feel blocked, held up, inundated by extra demands on you or confronted by an overbearing boss. You may find that whatever you do for the public, you'll feel unappreciated and irritated. Be patient and this situation will eventually pass.

On the 14th April Jupiter and Pluto make an opportunistic sextile and matters linked to events triggered by the first contact of these planets on 16th January may resurface. There is a chance to reassess financial plans, investment opportunities, debts owed or matters connected to things loaned to you or owned by someone else. Matters of a more intimate nature may also be reassessed. There is one more connection of these planets when Jupiter is moving direct, active on and around 12th September. Mercury retrograde finishes a day later and your personal reinvention should be completed.

On the 26th April Mars and Pluto combine in Capricorn so quiet obsession and increased ambition can be your enemy if you let it overtake you, or you may be a caught up in a power battle. This situation will take place either in public, at work or with family members, in particular with your parents, and it would be advisable to try and bring your ego down a peg or two. There is a lot of determination associated with this link up and if you have demanding mental or physical work or plans to get on with, then this may be a way of lessening any tension. This is an aspect of acting under the radar, and you may be involved in actions that are top secret or designed to be revealed fully only in the future.

May

Overview – The Sun is in Taurus at the start of this month and Mercury picking up speed joins it in this sign on the 13th May. This is a good window of opportunity to look at business deals and financial plans to boost your income. Venus in Gemini can charm your way into getting a good deal or bargain before Venus moves into Cancer on the 18th May. Here she is much more clingy and home orientated, and your sense to be around loved ones especially family members will be strong. The Sun and Mercury enter Gemini on 21st and 29th respectively to bring a busy “running around feel” to the last week of the month.

We move into Into May and on the 16th of this month Mars shifts into the sign of the Water Barer Aquarius. Mars is starting to slow down now as it is approaching a retrograde period, and so this transit is important for us all as Mars will spend longer in this sign than he normally would do. For you with an Aries Ascendant it's transit will spotlight themes connected to your hopes and dreams, matters dedicated to teams, groups, associations, companies or whole communities, friends and any situations where cooperation is required. Mars likes to lead from the front and your challenge here will be to be part of the group without taking over and being too headstrong to follow your agenda. You will find yourself competing with your friends and colleagues, thus the level of banter and barracking could be high.

On the same day Mars will square Uranus which itself will have just moved into the sign of Taurus. This is an important fixed square, the first of three contacts in total and because of it's location on the cusp of both signs and the fact that very few if any of us have our ascendants spot on the cusp of the sign, for you this is likely to see unexpected events linked to your work and career, with bosses, in public or with parents. You will want to see radical changes at work, but they may be rejected out of hand. There will also be a marked dislike of any imposed change upon you and you may fight back and rebel against being made to carry out actions that you think unnecessary. You should be aware that all sorts of things can go wrong now, in particular if you are rushing. Mistakes , accidents and unfortunate events could be entirely possible if you aren't concentrating properly. The other two dates where this aspect will be in operation will be around 2nd August and also 18th September 2018.

On 25th May Jupiter still in Scorpio makes a trine to Neptune in Pisces, the second of three aspects (the first of these occurred on 3rd December 2017). This is a flexible easy water trine connecting both faith planets and your idealism, imagination and need to escape will rise at this time. On the positive side, this is a highly dreamy, intuitive and creative phase and your ability to think laterally and your openness to new ways of handling financial matters, investments, stocks, shares and the like. You may also fantasize about sex and your intimate life and you may get obsessed over anything secret or matters linked to life and death , such as reincarnation and euthanasia. The downside is that there is also a temptation to avoid reality and let things get totally out of hand in regard to the same subjects that I just mentioned, in particular debt can skyrocket now if you aren't careful. You may make sacrifices or something may need rescuing now. There is one more connection of these planets after Jupiter turns direct on and around 19th August.

June

Overview – The busy and hectic feel continues into June and you may be pushed and pulled between outside commitments through Sun/Mercury in Gemini and spending time at home through Venus in Cancer. This will slow down as Mercury enter Cancer on 12th June just as Venus enters Leo on 13th. Now you will want to feel more the centre of attention, and you will want to enjoy yourself a bit more. The Sun follows into Cancer on the 20th at the Summer Solstice point. You will crave love now from those who you care about the most. Mercury enters Leo on 29th of the month.

As we reach June Mars starts to slow down and spend more and more time on each degree point. On the 8th June it links up with the South Node of the Moon, a position of traditional detriment, and this moment may see disappointments and difficult moments associated with your friends and in group situations. Your ambitions may also take a hit as reality hits home or an old problem from the past resurfaces it's ugly head. In terms of physical energy and motivation, you may be feeling at a lower ebb than normal. This, because of the impending retrograde motion of Mars is another one of these connections that will occur three times, the other two dates being on 20th July and 26th September.

Later in the month on 27th June Mars finally reaches a stop stationing retrograde. The time around this date sees Mars at it's most powerful, and you may be extra motivated to make an impression, but watch out for trying to impose your ideas or views on friends and in team situations. You may be seen as trying to interfere, and this could lead to tensions rising. From now until the end of August you may find that nothing will seem straightforward in these kinds of situations. Friends may go back on their words, collaborative plans or team efforts may see you revising or redoing work again and again and not achieving the aims that you initially set out. The likelihood of any success or achievement may be predicated by distractions and hitches along the way.

July

Overview – With Mercury and Venus in Leo you will want to enjoy your hobbies, time with the one you love and with children now. We are in the height of summer and it's time for some fun. That is until Venus enter Virgo on 10th July and you get a renewed sense that it's time to get back to the day job. Mercury is slowing again before going retro late in the month. The Sun enters Leo and we are pulled between the work that we have to do, and fulfilling our out of hours activities. There is a balance that needs to be found, and you may grumble and moan if there is too much work and too little play time.

Into July and there is a Solar Eclipse on 13th in the sign of Cancer. This eclipse focuses on your home life, where you live, who you live with, the conditions of the place that you live in and any property that you own or plan to own. Family matters also come under the auspices of this eclipse, your personal security, matters on a national level that affect you, your relations with parents and in particular your mother and with women in general. In the next six months these will be matters that come more into view in your life.

On the 27th July Mercury now in the sign Leo grinds to a halt and stations retrograde for three weeks. This moment may blunt your creative edge and you may feel that inspiration is not with you. It's possible that you may have to rely on other people to come up with ideas and solutions if you are feeling at a loss how to proceed with something? A person from the past who maybe you fancied may reappear now or in the next couple of weeks, and if you feel that your emotional life is not as it should be, maybe now would be a time to spice it up a little? Please try not to start up a new relationship though, as it may not go to plan. Fun times can be had with children, especially if you connect with them through games and mental challenges which will stimulate you.

On the same day there is a Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius that will reinforce the changes and issues brought to the forefront by the Solar Eclipse of 15th February in a more emotional way through relationship situations rather than through outside changes, although as this Eclipse is in the early degrees of Aquarius, many of you will also feel some shift in the balance at work, in your career and in your relationships with senior people in your life, how you relate to authority. Matters with your father could be brought up and how you deal with the general public may change, indeed you may be far more in the spotlight in this regard than you were before. These issues will likely appear in the next six months or until the next eclipse season in January 2019.

August

Overview – Venus is in Virgo for the first few days of August prioritising routine issues before moving into the relationship sign of Libra. Your partnerships are now important and you will want to relate with and have fairness with the one you love, and with all situations involving others. Mercury is in Leo all month and you may be learning how to moderate your attitudes in love, with kids and in anything you create or make. The Sun moves into Virgo on 22nd August, and you may take on a more responsible and modest attitude.

As we move into August we get the second of the Mars square Uranus aspects on the 2nd (see May) and following on from that event, Uranus stations retrograde on the 8th August. This will be a disruptive and chaotic period just before a Solar Eclipse where literally anything unusual could occur around us. You may be unusually stubborn over money and finances or over anything that you own. All this occurs before Mars regresses back into Capricorn on 13th August. During it's regression into this sign you may revisit work projects, reset work relations or reassess your career ambitions. Old matters concerning your parents or senior people in your life may resurface again.

As I mentioned, there is a second Solar Eclipse within a month again in the sign Leo on the 11th August. Matters surrounding love, children, hobbies, out of work activities, sports, and personal creative projects and practices will not only be front and centre in your thoughts at this moment, but situations and changes in your life linked to them will be more important for you throughout the rest of 2018.

The 19th August finds Jupiter making it's third and final trine to Neptune and I refer you back to May when this aspect first surfaced. The 27th August sees Mars stationing direct and we may redouble our efforts to get back on track and moving forward once again. This moment may feel like a total relief, as if the roadblocks in your way are being removed, and finally you can put your foot on the gas again, and pick up speed.

September

Overview – The month begins with all three inner bodies in different signs, however from the 6th Mercury enters Virgo and you will start to focus on details, routine, work and health matters. You are more workmanlike now, and with Venus in Scorpio from 9th September onwards for quite a long time, tougher and more decisive about what you actually desire. You can make tough and yet rational decisions about what you want from you sex life, as well as being able to negotiate over debts, investments and repayments. Mercury and the Sun enter Libra on 22nd and 23rd September respectively adding a layer of diplomacy and fair-mindedness to any decisions that you have to make.

After this testing August, we move into September and Mars re-enters the sign of Aquarius on the 11th of the month. Now all those delays and irritations in late June, July and August will start to make sense and finally you will realise that they were actually for the best, so that you could reach this point. A day later on the 12th Jupiter forms it's third and final sextile to Pluto, and aspect that we last saw on 14th April. Please refer back to this date for more information on how this will affect you. Mars makes it's final square to Uranus on the 18th September (first seen on 16th May) and powering forward now it connects with the South Node of the Moon for a final time on 21st September – please look back to 8th June when this aspect first appeared.

October

Overview – Venus remains in Scorpio as she slows down and Mercury adds to your sceptical and more inquiring nature as it enters this sign too on the 10th October. You will be staying less on the fence and looking in to taking more control as the month goes on and the Sun makes a threesome in the sign of the Scorpion on 23rd October. You will be fully focused on joint finances, investments, debts and anything owed to others, your intimate life, anything secret or unexplained. Venus moves back into Libra on 31st October.

The month of October unusually sees no major planetary aspects at all but there is one major event as on 6th October Venus slows to a halt now in the sign of Scorpio and begins a 42 day period of retrograde motion. As you will have gathered from earlier on in this guide, Scorpio covers the part of your life linked to sex, power, control, other people's values, money and possessions, death and change, debt, investments as well as things borrowed and loaned to you. All these parts of your life will be under review and some of these may be terminated if you think they are of no use to you any more. You will be considering your sexual needs and maybe you will encounter former sexual partners who come back onto the scene, you may be reassessing financial deals with money lenders, rearranging loans and mortgages and you may find yourself at the mercy of some pretty manipulative people. One rule of thumb during Venus retrograde. It is unwise to start brand new relationships or make important decisions over finances. Try and resist the urge until Venus moves direct again, even if the situations on offer look too good to be true.

November

Overview – This month is very much as you were from October, with Venus in retrograde and Mercury in Sagittarius all month slowing and preparing to enter its own new retrograde cycle. It's almost as if you are putting things on hold in November before you can start to progress forward again. Venus retrograde in Libra is shaking up and assessing relationship issues all month whereas Mercury is allowing you to dig through the details to get to the truth of everything going on. The Sun enters Sagittarius on 22nd November and this brings some cheer and optimism for those of you celebrating Thanksgiving and for all of us as the holiday season is approaching.

As we move into November, so Venus changes signs back into Libra and the focus of your gaze lands on your permanent relationships. Some home truths may come out now how you relate to your partner, and you may consider how to improve your relationship. Maybe you need a little more space, or you may decide together to adjust your priorities? Matters of partnerships in a professional sense may also be under review to see how they should work better, or if they are needed at all. You can also bury the hatchet with those who oppose you, enemies can be turned around to your way of thinking if you use a more diplomatic approach.

Jupiter makes a 150 degree quincunx to Uranus on 8th of the month, so taking a risk or two and changing your approach to things in a more innovative and open way may open the door to you feeling better about situations. In this case you may take a bit of an innovative approach to joint finances, investments you put your money into, in dealing with people in powerful positions or even to your private life.

The 8th of November is a significant day as Jupiter changes signs moving into it's home sign of Sagittarius. This is the most expansive and optimistic of all the planetary combinations and for all of us we can dream big and let off the shackles and chains that Jupiter in Scorpio was placed under. No more exploring the underworld, we are talking open plan, big sky, ride off in the distance with a backpack and not a care in the world. For you, Jupiter enters your house of learning, and this will lead to you needing to explore your mind and the world around you in the next 12 or so months. This could mean you re-entering education, expanding your ideals and your knowledge of faith, travelling to new places or thinking how you can better connect with the wider world.

At the same time Uranus still moving retrograde dips back into the sign of Aries for one last time and a week later on the 15th November Mars makes a positive sextile to it. Here we have opportunities to try out different ideas, or to innovate to get the results we require. You may be drawn to new technology, or meet new and exciting people who open your eyes and give you inspiration. Community or political activism may be something that attracts you now.

On the 15th November Mars changes signs into elusive Pisces and for you the end of a full Martian cycle is nearing. Mars will remain in this sign for the rest of the year and here in the house of undoing, you may pull back just a little from doing everything in the full glare of the public eye. Work like research, assisting charities and helping out behind the scenes will be much more productive and useful to you now than trying to forge ahead by yourself. Many of your aims between now and the end of the year may be held up, delayed or flounder because you are let down in some regard. This can lead to severe irritation and you should try to keep a lid on any repressed anger or upset.

There is a very exuberant aspect on the 16th November with Mars square to Jupiter and as a result you may be outspoken and willing to chance your arm. Some gambles will pay, off but there is a possibility that you could lose out in a big way too through your actions too. Make sure you calculate your risks before you act. Also on this day Venus stations direct in your house of relationships. Matters surrounding partnerships may reach a crescendo or a make or break point now.

I caution at this time as there are a lot of changes of planetary direction and signs, and things may be a little confusing. Adding into the mix, Mercury is slowing to a halt in Sagittarius exactly square to elusive and confusing Neptune before turning retrograde two days later on the 18th November. It is a time to review what you believe in, what you know and what you think the future may hold for you, however I would totally hold off making any kind of decision or signing any agreement for a few days at least. The questions out of this retrograde you should be asking yourself are these. Are you really following the philosophy in life that you are setting yourself or do you need to make a change of course now? This is a great time to re-enter education and to learn something you always wanted to learn. Be very careful if you are taking a long trip or going abroad in the next three weeks as unexpected delays (possibly weather related) and technical hitches could affect any journey.

On the 27th November Mars making a constructive sextile to Saturn encourages us to concentrate on our own priorities. If you can work on your own now away from others, you will be able to make some good progress for the future, especially in your job. Any work project started at this time may have some longevity about it, and although growth will be slow it will likely be steady and strong. I suggest keeping the full details under wraps until Mars comes into the open, into Aries and across your Ascendant in 2019. This aspect suggests that you will have a constructive relationship with you boss and with the general public too who will trust your judgement.

December

Overview – The Sun is leading the way at the beginning of this month in Sagittarius with Mercury and Venus finishing their retrograde periods. The truth will now be out in the open and you can make your mind up about things and how you are going to tackle things in the future. That sense of certainty increases as on the 2nd December Venus re-enters Scorpio. Mercury moves into Sagittarius on 12th December bringing a joyful and fun vibe into our lives. Your will be open minded and willing to think ahead, so this is a good time to set New Year's resolutions and to book up any training, educational courses and travel plans for 2018. The Sun enters Capricorn on 21st December, heralding the Winter Solstice.

We enter December and Mercury moves back briefly into Scorpio for 4 days on 2nd December before stationing direct on the 6th of this month, ending it's last retrograde of the year. Mercury at a station in Scorpio will likely give you an ultimatum or choice to make based on the evidence we have gathered in the previous few weeks of retrograde review. We may now either choose to go forward with a planned course of action, make a journey, start a new line of study or take up a legal battle or we may decide that it's no longer worth pursuing these avenues.

There is a powerful conjunction between Mars and Neptune on the 7th of the month. This aspect is one of great artistry and creation but also ones of utter deception and illusion. There is a hugely seductive quality about this conjunction and you may be incredibly tempted to deceive someone behind their back. Try if you can to resist the urge, as hiding the truth or covering up a mistake will always come around to bite you back when you least expect it. There is also a feel of the act of sacrifice in this connection, giving up something, an object, your time or submitting to someone. You may also be very tempted to escape, be it through drinking too much, being attracted to drugs or lying to avoid you getting into a worse position than you think that you are in.

There is one last aspect to concentrate our minds this year and this occurs on 17th December with Mars forming a sextile to Pluto. Here is a chance to concentrate your efforts, effect needed changes and to make constructive and binding progress, especially in a work and career sense. You will be very determined and quietly persuasive, and this may be a chance to get your way over a course of action. You should be in a positive frame of mind as we head for Christmas and the start of the New Year.
